National Coffee Day and Info on Caffeine Ingestion

Today is National Coffee Day! According to Fortune, 59% of Americans drink a daily cup of coffee daily. However, coffee/caffeine is toxic for dogs and cats.

Besides coffee, coffee grounds and coffee beans, other sources of caffeine in your house include:

  • Tea
  • Pop
  • Energy Drinks
  • Weightlifter Supplements
  • OTC Pills (example NoDoz)
  • Diet Pills
  • Chocolate

Signs/Symptoms to watch for include:

  • Hyperactivity
  • Restlessness
  • Vomiting
  • Elevated Heart Rate
  • Hypertension
  • Abnormal Heart Rhythms
  • Tremors
  • Hyperthermia
  • Seizures
  • Collapse
  • Possible Death
The best thing you can do if you dog or cat consumes anything from the list above is to immediately induce vomiting and immediately call your veterinarian.

If you have any question feel free to call you veterinarian or the Pet Poison Helpline at 855-764-7661. The are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

*We, here, at Spencer the Goldendoodle are not professionals. We are not a veterinarian or dog trainers. If you have a medical emergency or questions regarding your pet's health, please seek veterinary attention.

Today I'm joining the Tasty Tuesday Blog Hop hosted by Kol's Notes and Sugar the Golden Retriever.

  1. When we feel the need for caffeine, we have Mom drink it for us. It usually works as she is energized and insists we come along to do whatever she is doing. Good point, though, as caffeine and alcohol are bad for dogs.

  2. Happy coffee day! Mom is in line

  3. Happy National Coffee Day! Hope your mum enjoys drinking coffee, while you sit and ponder these harms! ;-)

  4. Happy National Coffee Day! We're celebrating it, too, since FiveSibesMom here is a huge java junkie (but keep it away from the FiveSibes!)! I do so love your pic, Spencer!

  5. Mommy celebrates National Coffee Day everyday ;-) ...but never shares with us!!
