Dog Medicine Book Review and Giveaway

I'm excited to share with you an amazing book called Dog Medicine: How My Dog Saved Me From Myself, a memoir written by Julie Barton herself.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), an estimated 16 million American adults (almost 7% of the population) had at least 1 major depressive episode last year. Julie's story is just one of many Americans out there who struggle with depression.

Here is the blurb from the back of this great book:

At twenty-two, Julie Barton collapsed on her kitchen floor in Manhattan. She was one year out of college and severely depressed. Summoned by Julie's incoherent phone call her mother raced from Ohio to New York and took her home.

Psychiatrists, therapists and family tried to intervene, but nothing reached her until the day she decided to do one hopeful thing: adopt a Golden Retriever puppy she named Bunker.

Dog Medicine captures in beautiful, elegiac language the anguish depression, the slow path to recovery, and the astonishing way animals can heal even the most broken hearts and minds.

As you learn about Julies journey from hitting rock bottom, hearing about her abusive past and how a dog name Bunker changed her life, you will find it hard to put this book down. But, make sure you have a tissue box close by. One moment my mom was laughing and the next she would be crying.

My favorite part of this book, when you were hearing Julie's story, you were also learning about Bunker's journey as well. You learn that when Julie had her breakdown in New York, that was the same day Bunker was born. This was a great way to parallel the two journeys until they became one.

If you love reading about animal-human bonds this definitely a powerful one you don't want to miss. With that being said, I highly recommend this book to everyone out there. There are some tough parts to read, I would recommend this book for an adult audience.

This book will be released on November 10th. You can pre-order you copy now on Amazon for $11.49 (Amazon Prime) HERE.

You can also learn more about Julie Barton and her book on her Website or on Facebook.

Now onto a giveaway for your chance to win this amazing book. This giveaway is open to US residents, 18 years of ago or older and until midnight on November 10th.

Dr.Seuss "What Pet Should I Get?

"Make Up Your Mind!"

Yesterday, Dr.Seuss just released a new book called, "What Pet Should I Get?" I'm a fan of his other work and jumped on the opportunity to pre-order my own copy months ago!

"What will we do?"

The story is about Kay and her bother. Their parents told them they could go to the pet story and pick out a new pet.
But they found out how hard it was to pick out just one.

"We have to pick ONE pet and pick it out soon!"

In true Dr.Seuss style there is rhyming throughout the book. I absolutely love the ending of this book. But, you are going to have to read it for yourself to see how it ends!

There is a great tribute to Dr.Seuss himself at the end of the book. There you will find a note about Dr.Seuss, his pets, and how this book came to be!

This is a great book for anyone's book collection, especially children.
