"Animals in War"

Long before Spencer inspired this blog, he was hard at work helping, encouraging and supporting a website called History By Zim.

History By Zim's purpose is to explore the many people and events that were left out of your history classes.

(Spencer and Callie helping Zim with her website)

History By Zim has a series entitled "Animals in War" that honors the lives of military animals. Throughout the decades, animals have played a major role in our military efforts around the world. Rarely do we hear their stories or the impact they have made. History By Zim celebrates their lives and careers.

You can check out the series here by clicking this link: http://www.historybyzim.com/series/animals-in-war/

  1. Hi Spencer - nice to meet you. I'm coming from the BlogPaws community. I was just wondering the other night if there were ever any war cats. Maybe the website has some information about it.

    1. Welcome Ann, thank you for taking the time to check out my new blog. That is a very good question and I asked Zim about the use of cats during war time. She stated that there was some records of using cats to deliver messages. But there were able to find better, more reliable ways to deliver messages. She stated that presently you can find cats in the military, but it is more of a companionship role they play.

    2. Cats were used sometimes as unit mascots during the World Wars. There are many cases in which soldiers stumble upon cats and "adopt" them. Here is a story about a soldier and a kitten during the Korean War - http://www.historybyzim.com/2013/06/animals-in-war-miss-hap-korea/
